Jenny Going - conductor

Jenny is currently Musical Director of the Essendon Symphony where she has been conductor since 2008. In 2016 she founded and is current Musical Director of the West Melbourne Schools Orchestra, worked as rehearsal conductor for Opera NZ’s season of Sweeney Todd and was a conductor for Melbourne Youth Music’s summer school. In 2015 Jenny was honoured to be the inaugural recipient of the Rosemary and John Hopkins Award.

2015 saw Jenny complete her Masters of Music performance degree specialising in orchestral conducting at The University of Melbourne under Benjamin Northey. She also studied with Luke Dollman, Mark Heron, Michal Dworzynski, Mark Shiell and Kevin Noe.

Jenny has been a successful Musical Director of several shows including Les Miserables, Buddy, Grease, and The Sound of Music for the Hamilton Operatic Society (NZ). She was music director the ZHFM Hamilton Big Band (NZ) and The Waikato Youth Orchestra (NZ).

Now based in Melbourne she founded Noteable – Music Education Resources in 2006. As Managing Director she has written and published nine resources for classroom music teachers. Jenny is a regular presenter of workshops at national music education conferences throughout Australia as well as presenting professional development workshops for music teachers for aMuse Victoria. She adjudicates regularly for the Victorian School Music Festival in both the concert band and orchestral section.

Jenny has been fully involved with secondary education as a Head of Music, from administration, conducting and managing performance groups, to directing school productions, instrumental teaching, growing and developing her music departments and of course, teaching classes.

During her music career Jenny has worked as a professional trombonist with the Royal New Zealand Navy Band, performed on stage with Randy Breaker, Arturo Sandoval, Robin Eubanks and Rob McConnell during her time studying in America, and toured extensively throughout the west coast of the USA and recorded with Ska Band Ruder Than You.
