Helen Ayres - violin

Helen is a recent Doctoral graduate from the where she studied with Mark Mogilevsky and completed a special study into the music of the Romanian violinist and composer George Enescu. Alongside her degree Helen has previously held a full-time position with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, is violinist with the Seraphim Trio and holds teaching positions at the University of Melbourne and Queens College, where she is Director of Music. Helen also tutors for the Australian Youth Orchestra, continuing a long association which started when she toured as a student with AYO to Asia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and America.

As a member of the Seraphim Trio (with Anna Goldsworthy and Tim Nankervis), Helen has performed at various festivals in Vienna, New Caledonia, and at home in Townsville, Mildura, Castlemaine, Port Fairy, the Barossa Valley and the Mornington Peninsula. In March this year the trio performed the Beethoven Triple Concerto under the guidance of Professor John Hopkins and quickly followed these concerts with their inaugural East Coast tour to Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Other highlights include performances at International Chamber Music Competitions in Melbourne, Osaka and Trieste and several broadcasts for Musica Viva, ABC Classic FM, 2MBS FM and 3MBS FM. In 2004 Helen and Tim performed as associate artists in the 2004 Sydney International Piano Competition, and will take part again in 2008.

Highlights for 2006 include a performance of Sibelius' violin concerto with John Hopkins and the Melbourne University Orchestra, and performances of Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time for ABC Classics Sunday Live program and Piano Landmarks.
