Ivana Tomášková - violin
Ivana Tomášková comes from a family with musical tradition. At the age of seven, she began her studies at the Experimental School for Talented Children,and gave her first recital in 1977 when she was 13 years old. She graduated in 1983 at the Conservatorium in Brno and in 1988 at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow. In 1992 she completed Master of Music at the Prague Music Academy.
Ivana has participated in a number of prestigious international competitions held in Italy, USA, Great Britain and South Africa, and has won prizes for outstanding artistic performance.
As a soloist she has performed among others with The State Philharmonic Orchestra Brno, The Philharmonic Orchestra Hradec Králové, The Czech Chamber Soloists, The Sondershausen Philharmonic Orchestra, Melbourne Youth Orchestra and Melbourne Musicians. Simultaneously she has been performing the chamber music with the Trio Belle Époque, Trio Vivace, pianists Renata Ardasevova, Tamara Smolyar, Gerard Willems and Katherine Day.
Since arriving in Australia in 2000, Ivana has been performing at many prominent venues: Melbourne Town Hall, Melba Hall, St. John’s Southgate, Melbourne Club, Royal Exhibition Building, Austrian Club, Melba Conservatorium, Monash University, British Music Society, Camberwell Music Society, Montsalvat, Macedon Music Society, and at Sotheby's Gallery in Sydney.
She has given concerts in Austria, Holland, Germany, Spain, North Africa, United Kingdom and Australia. Ivana has made over 30 recordings of classical and modern composers, mainly for Czech Radio and the ABC. Her second CD was released in 2005 in Europe.
Ivana’s wide repertoire comprises pieces of all styles. The critiques emphasise beauty and expression of her tone, technical brilliance, sense for style and the remarkable poetic and singing features of her individual performance.
From 1995 she taught at the Brno Conservatorium and in Australia at the Melba Conservatorium and Monash University. Since 2008 she has been an AMEB examiner. Ivana regularly gives Master classes across Australia and returns to Europe for concerts and recordings.
