Kat Tsyrlin - violin, viola

Kat has over 20 years experience as a string performer, educator and conductor. She has premiered new violin and chamber works in Forest Collective's concert series including solo commissions written for her by May Lyon, new works by such Australian composers as Joe Chindamo, Evan Lawson and Brenton Broadstock for piano trio and mixed chamber ensemble with Ensemble Goldentree, and newly commissioned string quartets with Allotropy!

Kat performed as a violinist in solo and piano trio recitals for Classical Revolutions, and a New York Tropfest Film Fest soundtrack. She has played as principal violin and viola with Hopkins Sinfonia, La Fraternita di Solisti, the Australian and Asian Orchestra and Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra including three national tours of China. She plays regularly with new online Australian Discovery Orchestra, and has played in the past for Pro Musica, Camerata, Melbourne City Opera, Melbourne Opera and in many musicals often as concertmaster including Les Miserables, Evita and Oliver.

Kat holds a Bachelor of Music Performance in Violin studies from the Victorian College of the Arts and a Master of Music Studies in Conducting from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. She studied violin with Rudolf Osadnik, Nathan Gutman, Miwako Abe, Zoë Black and more recently with William Hennessy and Rachael Beesley, and conducting with Prof. John Hopkins, Monte Mumford and Stephen Leek.

Kat also works as a strings teacher and orchestra conductor at St. Kevin’s College in Toorak, Brighton Secondary College and the Crashendo program at Laverton P-12 College, Victoria.
