Katherine Day - piano

Melbourne-based pianist Katherine Day grew up in the small town of Little River and began piano studies in Geelong at the age of four. She was a music scholar at University High School and went on to complete undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the Victorian College of the Arts. Whilst there, Katherine was also a staff pianist, playing for visiting artists Radovan Vlatkovic, Natalia Gutman, Michael Bertoncello and Timothy Dowling.

In 1998 she was a prize-winner in the VCA's annual concerto competition and appeared with Orchestra Victoria playing Ravel's Concerto for the Left Hand. Katherine has also studied in Moscow (1991), Sydney (1995) and Manhattan (2001) before moving to London to pursue solo studies at the Royal College of Music. Whilst there, she was a finalist in the College's concerto trials and performed widely as a soloist, orchestral and chamber musician.

Since returning to Melbourne, Katherine has appeared as soloist and associate artist in many venues in and around Melbourne, including the Australian National Academy of Music, the Victorian College of the Arts, Opera Australia, RMIT and the Collins Street Baptist Church.

Katherine twice performed the Grieg Piano Concerto (in A minor, Opus 16) with the Zelman Symphony on 27 March 2004 and 25 April 2004.
