Nicholas Feng – violin

Introducing the young talent, Nicholas Feng, a 12-year-old Melbourne-born violinist and pianist whose remarkable journey into the realm of classical music has begun to inspire audiences with passion and brilliance.

Nicholas started learning the piano as his first instrument and later discovered a profound connection to violin at age 8. After two years of violin studies, Nicholas had already demonstrated extraordinary aptitude for the violin and received numerous awards in competitions, including first prize in Boroondara Eisteddfods, Monash Music Festival, Bendigo Strings Competition, Latrobe Valley Eisteddfod, etc. In 2022, Nicholas was the 1st place winner of the Stella Nemet Award for strings awarded by the Musical Society of Victoria and received a Camberwell Grammar School full music scholarship.

Under the guidance of esteemed mentors Prof. Dr Robin Wilson, MSO violinist Mark Mogilevski and Ms Lisa Grosman, Nicholas has been diligently refining his technique, and nurturing his musical intuition. In the 2023 Preston Youth Concerto Competition, Nicholas was the youngest finalist to receive the Audience Prize. The adjudicator Molly Kadarauch commented: “...What an incredible performance! Completely confident playing with impressive technique, soloistic sound, and lovely imagination! Absolute panache and a very clear virtuosic presence…”

Nicholas has also embraced collaborative opportunities, participating in chamber music ensembles and orchestras, such as Melbourne Youth Orchestra, ARCO Young Mannheim Symphonists, Mendelssohn Strings Octet, and award-winning school ensembles, including Highton Trio and Angliss Strings. Beyond violin playing, Nicholas is a passionate pianist who has performed on 3MBS The Talent and the Kawai Piano Live.
